The Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) is a multi-racial, multi-cultural arts education organization that uses music as a powerful tool for social change by purposefully uniting a diverse group of children to sing, perform and serve as ambassadors of harmony for the city of Boston at local events as well as on tour nationally and internationally. The BCC began just over four years ago as a pilot program with 20 singers. Today, under the direction of Artistic Director Anthony Trecek-King, it is comprised of nearly 300 singers ages 7-18 in nine choirs in four Boston locations. The singers represent more than 50 of Boston’s urban and suburban neighborhoods. Through its intensive music education program, these singers have the opportunity to experience the life-changing power of music as they develop music theory and choral performance skills. Since the inception of the Boston Children’s Chorus, with over 150 performances to date, their children’s voices have been heard by millions, both live and on television. A wide range of public and private events include the nationally televised Boston Pops Fourth of July 2007 Celebration, the Democratic National Convention, the inauguration of Governor Deval Patrick, tours to Japan, Chicago and Mexico, collaborations with the Boston Classical Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, American Boychoir, Emmanuel Music, the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, Soweto Gospel Choir, Westminster Choir College, Chicago Children’s Choir and Young People’s Chorus of New York City plus performances at local shelters, senior housing and religious institutions.
Our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert televised live on WCVB-TV Channel 5 (ABC) is becoming a Boston tradition for celebrating the legacy of Dr. King on his national holiday.
