The Eighth Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Concert

On January 17, 2011, in partnership with WCVB-TV, Channel 5 and New England Conservatory, BCC will present and broadcast a live concert, Raising the Roof, in Dr. King’s honor, on his national birthday holiday. This annual concert will be syndicated to over 85% of the U.S. TV market during the month of January, mostly on ABC-affiliated stations.

We are thrilled to have Grammy Award winner, Patti Austin, and teen stars Christopher and Kyle Massey, as our celebrity hosts! We are also proud that NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal will share a personal reflection on Dr. King’s legacy during the national broadcast.

Arguably, there is no better way to celebrate the Martin Luther King holiday than with diverse youth singing at levels of excellence. This concert is the embodiment of Dr. King’s dream: that young people of all colors can transcend racial barriers to share their gifts and talents.

In addition, join us at 8:00PM EST in observing The King Minute: one minute of Silent Reflection on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This BCC-initiated civic action is getting a big boost by the Boston Celtics decision to ask their fans to observe The King Minute prior to their game with the Orlando Magic on January 17 - the holiday's national day of observance.
