The NBA’s Boston Celtics will ask fans to observe The King Minute, a civic initiative of the Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) on Monday, January 17, the national holiday honoring the work of Martin Luther King, Jr., before their game with the Orlando Magic.
The Celtics are one of several organizations that will join the civic action initiated by BCC, which is celebrating the legacy of Dr. King with its 8th annual tribute concert. Grammy Award-winning artist Patti Austin and teen Disney and Nickelodeon stars Christopher and Kyle Massey will be special guests of the chorus for the nationally-televised event.
“We are continually trying to find ways to engage new audiences as well as heighten the social significance of the day and are pleased the Celtics will recognize the King Minute,” said Executive Director David Howse and BCC Founder Hubie Jones.
“Dr. King’s greatest legacy is the children who embrace his ideals of unity and peace. They are our future leaders and our singers are an inspirational representation of that legacy.”
