The Ninth Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Concert
On January 16, 2012, in partnership with New England Conservatory, BCC presented "Beloved Community" in Dr. King’s honor, on his national birthday holiday. We were thrilled to have American Idol star, Melinda Doolittle as our guest artist!
Arguably, there is no better way to celebrate the Martin Luther King holiday than with diverse youth singing at levels of excellence. This concert is the embodiment of Dr. King’s dream: that young people of all colors can transcend racial barriers to share their gifts and talents.
In his letter from the Birmingham jail written almost 50 years ago, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. expressed his belief that, “we are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.” In our society, we are often polarized by our differences. Through the power of song, the Boston Children’s Chorus chooses to focus on the ties that bind us to one another as part of a Beloved Community.
