BACKGROUND:
Founded in October of 2003, The Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic arts education organization that is fast becoming an indispensable cultural resource for the people of greater Boston. The BCC brings together a diverse group of children ages 7-15 to discover the power of singing and to serve as ambassadors for their city. The Chorus’ mission is broad and ambitious: youth development, social healing and community building are the fundamental goals, and music is the powerful tool we employ for social change. Our program of in-depth, high-quality musical education and experience includes particular outreach to underserved children, families and communities, and a commitment to reflecting and celebrating our city’s rich diversity.
Since the debut concert in January 2004, the BCC has sung in over 80 performances for a combined live and television audience in the millions. Highlights include three highly successful Martin Luther King, Jr. Concerts at Jordan Hall; several of our singers sang at the 2004 Democratic National Convention as part of the Children's Voices of Greater Boston collaborative; and in July 2005 our Concert Choir went to Japan for their first international tour, followed a few short weeks later by an appearance at the opening home game of the New England Patriots where they sang the National Anthem to 65,000 fans. In addition, BCC singers performed for the Red Sox and fans at Fenway Park in April, May and September 2006. We are proud of our participation in the Holocaust Memorial Rededication Ceremony at Faneuil Hall in Boston.
Our aim is to provide dynamic musical training and performance opportunities to children of all backgrounds and ability levels and to make children a visible part of the public life of the city. The programs of the BCC foster expressive and compassionate young human beings who will be models for social change.
