Almost 40 new training level singers and seven
Premier Choir Mentors participated in the five-day
Camp at Roxbury Community College from August 11-
15, 2008.
Assistant Artistic Director Michele Adams, the
faculty and our wonderful student Mentors did an
outstanding job engaging the singers. In addition to
rehearsals, throughout the week singers took classes
in music theory, movement, voice, Alexander
Technique, as well as swimming at a nearby Boys &
Girls Club and enjoyed a pizza party and an ice cream
social.
The Mentors had valuable, hands-on
opportunities to exercise and build upon their
leadership
and teaching skills. Georgia, Premier
Choir singer and a second year Camp
Mentor who recently received training in a method
of teaching music called Kodaly, was given an
opportunity to create and teach a class at Camp. She
created lesson plans, which were reviewed by staff,
undertook a dry run, and taught the class by herself.
The parents were thrilled and amazed with the
singer's accomplishments in just a week's time. It
was a very successful program and Friday evening's
culminating
concert went very smoothly and was well received.
Both singers and families left with a sense of
excitement for the
BCC and an anticipation of the upcoming season.
Congratulations on a job well done
to all of our Camp 2008 Mentors! Thank you to
Georgia,
Paul, Grant, Casey, Cyrus, Elizabeth and Isabel!
