Greetings!
ATK AR MLK 07

Spring is here, and we at the Boston Children's Chorus are looking forward to the culmination of a season of exciting growth and artistic accomplishment!

Recruitment for next season is in full swing, and the Artistic Staff have been busy conducting auditions throughout the community. Next year, the chorus will open its doors to 250 returning and new singers, comprising nine choirs!

As the chorus expands its numbers, we are also expanding our choir programs into new parts of Boston. We are proud to announce the addition of a new Neighborhood Choir for the 2007-2008 season, located in Allston/ Brighton in partnership with the West End House.

This summer, we are also very excited to announce that BCC will relocate to 110-112 Shawmut Avenue in Boston. This new home will include a state- of-the-art rehearsal space that will be a haven for our growing singer population! We thank our generous donors for supporting the build out of our new home. We are still seeking donations of desks, office chairs, storage cabinets and reception area furniture, so please contact us if you can help!

As the end of the season approaches, our choirs are hitting their stride! In just a few short weeks, Concert Choir will begin cultural orientation sessions for their upcoming tour to Mexico! Our young singers strive to become both exemplary musicians and world citizens, and touring is an integral part of introducing them to the world stage. This year, our tour through Mexico will introduce our choristers to a new culture, and through our host family program, singers will learn what it's like to be a young person living in Mexico.

We hope that you will join us on June 9th for our Spring Concert-- our last all-choir appearance in Boston in the 2006- 2007 performance season.

Thank you so much for your continued support of the Boston Children's Chorus!

DH VV for Ice Chips
In April, the Boston Children's Chorus Choirs at Dorchester House and Villa Victoria performed at the 2007 edition of the Boston Skating Club's annual "Ice Chips" revue to a sell-out crowd at Harvard University's Bright Arena.

Under the direction of Mary Louise Schecter, choristers performed the "Star Spangled Banner" to open the program and an arrangement of "Grand Old Flag" to kick off the second act. Their performance was met with a thunderous applause.

Ice Chips involves virtually the entire Skating Club membership and features guest performers, which this year included 2006 Olympic Silver Medalist Sasha Cohen. Always a charity event, this year's beneficiaries were Children's Hospital, Project Bridge for the Homeless, and the Girl Scouts of America.

Singers were very excited to perform at the event, and remained as part of the audience for the Ice Chips Show. Villa Victoria and Dorchester House Choirs are part of BCC's Neighborhood Choir Program. June Ambush is the Director of the Villa Victoria Neighborhood Choir and Mary Louise Schecter is the Director of the Dorchester House Choir.

Do you know a child who loves to Sing?

Boston Children's Chorus will hold our next series of auditions for the 2007-2008 performance season during the weeks of April 30-May 5, and June 11-16.

Auditions take only ten minutes, and no prepared material is required. Singers ages 7-18 will be placed into one of nine beginner, intermediate or advanced level choruses. Boston Children's Chorus is a professional level performing chorus that tours nationally and internationally, and encourages students to excel musically, develop self-confidence, and build their community throughout greater Boston.

On May 17, open rehearsals will be held for music teachers and youth workers who are interested in learning about the Boston Children's Chorus. Students who already participate in the chorus will have the opportunity to bring a friend to rehearsal on May 24.

Miriam El-Baz of Concert Choir made her composing debut with a five instrument piece called Percussion Festival, performed at a Brookline Public Schools Music Composition Festival. Miriam's composition was selected to represent her K-8 school, the William H. Lincoln School.

Sabrina Lofstedt of Treble Choir performs in the Wizard of Oz at the Footlight Theatre in Jamaica Plain April 27, 28, 29, May 4 and 5. She plays the part of a Mommy Munchkin.

In March and April, Lauren Abbott of Treble Choir appeared as Matilda in the Wizard of OZ at the Winchester Cooperative Theatre.
Raise the Roof for the Boston Children's Chorus tour to Mexico!

Our thanks go out to the Miles family for organizing this event. Last year, the concert sold out and helped the BCC send singers to Chicago.
