Boston Children's Chorus comes to the West
End House
We are thrilled to announce that we are expanding our
neighborhood based choral program and have
selected the West End House Boys and Girls Club as
our next program partner. "The West End House is an
exciting and vibrant place where students of all ages
come to learn and grow," said Artistic Director Anthony
Trecek-King. "It is a perfect partner for the Boston
Children's Chorus."
West End House Boys and Girls Club member
Lisanna Paulina auditioned on March 14th. "I was
really excited when I found out tryouts for the Boston
Children's Chorus were right here are our Club,"
Lisanna says. "There isn't a chorus group at my
school, so it's great for me and other members to
practice here and also to be able to travel around
Boston to perform."
Our most recent audition at the West End House was
held June 12th and auditions are continuing. Call the
BCC at (617) 778-2242 x 225 for audition info. The
chorus will begin its weekly rehearsals at the club in
September and will perform throughout the Boston
area.

On June 15th nearly 300 singers, family members,
staff and board members celebrated a fantastic
performance season at our annual Year-End Banquet
at UMass Boston. Highlights of the evening included a
delicious dinner, singer recognition, a Bon Voyage
performance by the Concert Choir, greetings from the
Mexican Consulate and spirited dancing.
The success of our banquet was due in part to the
efforts of parent Therese Miles (parent of Branden
Miles). We thank Therese for organizing the meal and
the entertainment - both widely enjoyed by the
guests.
As we approach the official end of our 2007-2008
season, we send a special thanks to members of our
Parent Association. We particularly thank our
outgoing Parent Association co-chairs, Marcie
Osinsky (mother of Eddie Dodson) and Dawn Lewis
(mother of Rabiah Elisa). Both Marcie and Dawn were
instrumental in laying the foundation for a successful
Parent Association and we thank them for their time
and energy toward these efforts.
We also thank Marie and Dan Glenn (parents of
Brendan Glenn) for hosting an end-of-year cookout for
the Dorchester House Choir at their home in
Westwood.
We look forward to moving the Parent Association
forward with our new leadership team. Parents
interested in joining the Parent Association
Leadership
Team, please contact David Howse at 617-778-2242
x222.

Youth in the Arts Initiative of the Carl and Ruth
Shapiro
Family Foundation
We are proud and excited to announce that the BCC recently received a first-time grant of $30,000 from the Youth in the Arts Initiative of the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation. This significant grant will support our growing Neighborhood Choir Program in the 2007- 2008 season. The Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation was
established in 1961 by Carl Shapiro, a successful
businessman who founded Kay Windsor, Inc., a
women's apparel company based in New Bedford,
MA. Together with their three daughters, Carl and his
wife Ruth remain very active in the Foundation today.
The Foundation's funding interests are in the areas of
Arts and Culture, Education, Health and Hospitals,
Jewish Causes and Social Welfare (see
www.shapirofamilyfdn.org for more information). The
Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals.
In response to the Trustee's interest in arts
organizations that benefit youth from disadvantaged
circumstances, the Foundation created the Youth in
the Arts Initiative in 2003. The goal of the Initiative is to
support the growth and development of youth as
artists, as individuals, and as participants in their
communities. The BCC is honored to be recognized
by the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation as a
worthy grant recipient.
