Happy Spring from everyone at the Boston Children's Chorus!

BCC has experienced a year of significant growth and achievement with the addition of two new choirs and a new neighborhood choir at the West End House in Allston. As we approach the end of our fifth season and look ahead to next season, we are reminded of the dedication and hard work of all of our singers who continually inspire and motivate us. We are so proud of our choristers' growth and accomplishments over the year!

All nine choirs have had a very busy performance schedule. A few recent highlights include our "In the Neighborhood" concert featuring the four Training Choirs at Boston's Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, and the participation of our Young Men's Voice Ensemble at the Men's Choral Festival at Tufts University . Our Concert Choir is headed to New York City in early May and the Premier Choir is preparing for a trip to Oregon in June for the Pacific International Children's Chorus Festival.

Recruitment is underway for next season. We expect that more than 300 singers will participate in our nine choirs in 2008-2009. Do you know a child who loves to sing? Audition details follow below.

Our final concert of the 2007-2008 season will be held on June 14th at 2:00PM at the historic Strand Theatre in Uphams Corner. Everyone at BCC eagerly anticipates this annual celebration and culmination of our season. We expect a fantastic turn out for this festive occasion, which will showcase the talents of all nine choirs. Last year's concert was so successful that we've booked an even larger venue this year. We hope to see you there!

The Boston Children's Chorus congratulates and wishes continued success for our three graduating seniors!

Cautchy Bailly (pictured left), attends high school at Nipmuc Regional High School in Upton. He sings with the Young Men's Voice Ensemble and this is his first year with BCC. Singing at a dinner hosted by the Harvard Black Student Association and the MLK concert are two highlights of his BCC experience. Looking back on the 2008 MLK Concert Cautchy says: "it was such an honor to be able to perform at such an event for people who were not only in the audience, but watching across the country. Meeting Governor Deval Patrick afterwards was also a great accomplishment." Cautchy is excited to be joining CityYear Boston next year.

Sherylynn Sealy (pictured right), has been singing with the Boston Children's Chorus for three years and is President of the Premier Choir this season. She is in her senior year at Shrewsbury High School. Of the many great experiences she's had as part of BCC, Sherylynn definitely ranks last summer's Mexico tour as the most exciting, which she described as an "incredible experience." She credits the Boston Children's Chorus for introducing her to "people she would never have met otherwise, but who all have a common interest." Sherylynn is choosing whether to attend Northeastern University or Eastern Nazarene College next year, and plans to major in either education or psychology.

Laura Davis, who sings in our Concert Choir, is a senior at Andover High School. This is Laura's second year in the Boston Children's Chorus. She has lots of fond memories of being in BCC, especially singing with the Boston Pops at the 4th of July Concert this past summer. Since music education is not a part of the curriculum at her high school, Laura is grateful to be a part of the BCC where she has "learned so much about music" and enjoys "being part of a choir that students care so much about." Laura is currently deciding where she'll attend college next year, and is planning to study either education or special education.

BCC Benefit Concert
The first annual benefit concert was held on Saturday March 1 at the Concord Baptist Church in Boston. This well-attended performance featured all nine BCC choirs, which displayed their talents individually as well as in various combinations. Proceeds helped defray the cost of tuition at BCC.

In The Neighborhood
The four training choirs of the BCC (Treble, Villa Victoria, West End House, and Dorchester House I) presented the second annual "In the Neighborhood" concert Saturday, April 5 at the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology. This annual concert allows the youngest members of the BCC family to showcase their talents, giving them a platform to display the tremendous progress they have made over the course of the year.

Men's Choral Festival
On April 12, the BCC Young Men's Voice Ensemble joined the Handel and Haydn Society and the Tufts Chorale for the inaugural Boston Area Young Men's Choral Festival at the Ganoff Music Center at Tufts University.
audition
The Boston Children's Chorus is now holding auditions for its 2008-2009 performance season. If you know a child who loves to sing, and wants to discover the power of singing with others and serving as ambassadors for the city of Boston, please contact the Program Manager at (617) 778-2242 x 234.

The next two audition dates are April 26th & May 17th, 10am - 4pm. Auditions take only ten minutes, and no prepared materials are required. Singers ages 7-18 will be placed into one of nine beginner, intermediate or performance level choirs.

Boston Children's Chorus is a professional-level performing chorus that tours nationally and internationally, and encourages students to excel musically, fosters self-confidence, and builds community throughout greater Boston.
We are pleased to welcome two new employees to the BCC family: Business Manager Doris Mainville and Development Associate Christina Ventresca.

Doris Mainville joined the Boston Children's Chorus in April 2008 after serving for more than 20 years as the CFO/business manager/controller for a number of small to medium size, primarily non-profit organizations. She has also taught German and chemistry to high school students and ESL and development writing to college students. Doris has a BA from the University of Florida, an MA from the University of Massachusetts Boston, and certification in accountancy from Bentley College. Her outside interests include her family, music and travel.

Christina Ventresca joined the Boston Children's Chorus in March 2008. She has over eight years experience in higher education administration and student services. Christina has always been interested in working with youth in a variety of educational and cultural capacities. As an undergraduate, she tutored Boston Public School students and was involved in a program funded by the National Science Foundation to increase the quality of math and science education in the Boston Public Schools. Christina holds a bachelors degree in Mathematics from Northeastern University, and a Master in Public Administration with a Specialization in Nonprofit Management from Suffolk University.

The Boston Children's Chorus was recently honored at Eastern Bank's 4th Annual "Community Quarterback" award ceremony, being one of 61 nonprofits to receive a $10,000 or higher grant. BCC's Annette Rubin and Anthony Trecek-King attended the ceremony led by Eastern Bank's Chairman and CEO Richard E. Holbrook. Former quarterback Doug Flutie was also there to congratulate awardees and gave each organization an autographed football.

BCC is thrilled to be a first-time Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation grant recipient. We tip our hat to the Bank's amazing commitment to the community and look forward to what we hope will be a longstanding partnership.

Eastern Bank is the largest Mutual Bank in New England with branches from the Merrimack Valley to Cape Cod.
