Hours: Part-time, must accommodate late afternoon, evenings, and weekends subject to rehearsal & performance schedules 


Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) harnesses the power of music to connect our city’s diverse communities, cultivate empathy and inspire social inquiry. Children, ages 7–18, come together across differences of race, religion, and socioeconomic status in a celebration of shared humanity and love of music. BCC bridges Greater Boston’s many diverse groups and fosters a sense of belonging and inclusion. Through intensive choral training and once-in-a-lifetime performing experiences locally, nationally, and around the world, BCC enhances the education and social development of  youth as future leaders and global citizens in the 21st century. Assistant Conductors are an integral part of the artistic team. Assistant conductors support instruction for weekly rehearsals, ensure singer safety and success during concerts, and provide critical artistic assistance for self-produced concerts and major performances.  

The successful candidate will be expected to:  

  • Attend all rehearsals and performances 
  • Cover principal conductor for all rehearsals and performances 
  • Be prepared to conduct with little to no advance notice 
  • Plan and execute entire rehearsal sessions in the absence of the supporting conductor  
  • Conduct sectional rehearsals as requested 
  • Prepare rehearsal seating charts 
  • Meet weekly with principal conductor 
  • Plan and execute instruction for singers as assigned by their principal conductor  
  • Monitor weekly attendance for singers, working with the program team to follow up with absences  
  • Attend up to 2 professional learning sessions for the 2022-2023 season  
  • Attend monthly check-ins with the Recruitment Manager 
  • Act as a liaison for parent and singer questions at rehearsals and concerts  
  • Recruit and audition students of all backgrounds for the organization at large  
  • Administer yearly one-on-one evaluations for each singer, providing detailed feedback on singer progress for internal and external use  
  • Attend, support, and conduct at all major self-produced concerts at the request of the Associate Director of Choirs  
  • Confer with parents/caregivers and the Associate Director of Choirs regarding student progress  


  • Bachelor’s degree in music  
  • Demonstrated excellence as a choral conductor  
  • Minimum 2-years direct experience in music education or choral conducting  
  • High-level performance in voice or an instrument 
  • Knowledge of choral techniques, vocal pedagogy, and a broad range of choral repertoire for middle and high school singers  
  • Knowledge and experience of Kodály, Gordon, and other music pedagogies  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills  
  • Ability to work as a member of a team  


Teaching Assistant positions are open during the following weekly rehearsals:  

  • Wednesdays in South Boston, 5:00-7:00 pm with singers aged 13-17
