Compensation: $65,000 - $70,000, with a competitive benefits package

POSITION OVERVIEW
The full-time Conductor will conduct and teach a mix of choral programs and initiatives as the season schedule demands, leading inspiring choral experiences for children and youth throughout Greater Boston. This position will primarily serve elementary and middle school children. In collaboration with BCC’s artistic staff, the full-time Conductor will be expected to plan and execute high-level rehearsals and performances, and assist in leading compelling recruitment efforts that enact BCC’s values, mission, and vision, and that exemplify multicultural, anti-ableist, anti- racist practices. In addition to conducting and teaching, the full-time Conductor will curate a special project(s) throughout the season as determined by interest, related expertise, and organizational needs in collaboration with the Music Director and Associate Director of Choirs. The full-time Conductor will work closely with the Music Director and Associate Director of Choirs, and will receive coaching and mentorship from this team. This position is an amazing opportunity for a passionate conductor looking to work in a wide array for artistic and educational settings.
TEACHING & CONDUCTING DUTIES
- Plan and execute instruction for elementary and middle school singers in assigned Choir(s), utilizing BCC’s proprietary frameworks for instruction.
- Provide weekly directions to associated site team: Associate Conductors, Teaching Assistants, Collaborative Pianists, as relevant.
- Prepare singers for performances throughout the season as determined by the Music Director.
- Maintain timely communication with the Music Director, Associate Director of Choirs, and BCC colleagues.
- Attend meetings to plan for performances, events, recruitment, and assessments.
- Support recruitment events for in-school and after school programs, and audition students of all backgrounds for the organization at large.
- Attend, support, and/ or conduct in BCC performances, as requested by the Music Director.
- Provide support, as directed by the concert production team, for setup and break down of the concert stage, holding rooms, registration areas, etc.
- Confer with parents/caregivers, school administrators, Music Director, or Associate Director of Choirs regarding student progress.
- Other duties as assigned by the Music Director and Associate Director of Choirs
SPECIAL PROJECT(S)
From above: In addition to conducting and teaching, a Full-Time Conductor will be assigned a project or projects to organize or lead. That will be determined with the Music Director and Associate Director of Choirs by interest, related experience/expertise, and organizational needs. This could be in the form of documentation, organization/season preparation, event planning, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, or other Bachelor’s with additional choral instruction experience is required.
- Master’s degree in Choral Conducting or Music Education preferred.
- Bilingual written and verbal proficiency preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of direct experience and demonstrated success as a choral music educator.
- Minimum 3-4 years of knowledge and direct experience of Kodaly, Gordon, and/or other singing-based methodology.
- Strong, yet affirming, classroom management skills required.
- Knowledge of choral techniques, vocal pedagogy, and a broad range of choral repertoire for a children’s choir.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially public speaking, and written skills.
- Strong administrative and computer skills required.
- The right candidate will be a capable, independent worker with strong entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
