Overview 

Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) harnesses the power of music to connect our city’s diverse communities, cultivate empathy and inspire social inquiry. Children, ages 7–18, come together across differences of race, religion, and socioeconomic status in a celebration of shared humanity and love of music. BCC bridges Greater Boston’s many diverse groups and fosters a sense of belonging and inclusion. Through intensive choral training and once-in-a-lifetime performing experiences locally, nationally, and around the world, BCC enhances the education and social development of youth as future leaders and global citizens in the 21st century. Teaching Assistants are an integral part of the artistic team, supporting instruction in weekly rehearsals and singer management for combined rehearsals and performances. Teaching assistants receive training and mentorship from BCC lead artistic team and the opportunity to engage with and learn from BCC’s community of teaching and conducting staff.  

RESPONSIBILITIES​

The successful candidate will be expected to: 

  • Monitor weekly attendance for singers, working with the program team to follow up with absences  
  • Plan and execute instruction for singers as assigned by their supporting conductor  
  • Provide lesson plans as instructed by their supporting conductor  
  • Attend planning meetings at the request of their supporting Conductor  
  • Attend monthly meetings with Associate Director of Choirs (alternating individual and cohort sessions), including up to 3 professional learning sessions for the 2024-2025 season 
  • Plan and execute entire rehearsal sessions in the rare absence of the supporting conductor  
  • Act as a liaison for parent and singer questions at rehearsals and concerts  
  • Recruit students of all backgrounds for the organization at large 
  • Administer one-on-one evaluations for each singer, providing detailed feedback on singer progress for internal and external use  
  • Attend and support at all concerts and additional performances at the request of the Associate Director of Choirs 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent experience preferred  
  • Demonstrated excellence as a choral educator and conductor 
  • Strong proficiency in vocal or instrumental performance 
  • Minimum 1-year direct experience in music education or choral conducting 
  • Knowledge of choral techniques and vocal pedagogy 
  • Knowledge and experience of Kodály, Gordon, and other music pedagogies  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Ability to work as a member of a team 

SCHEDULE 
 

Teaching Assistant positions are open during the following weekly training choir rehearsals throughout the city of Boston:

  • Wednesdays 4:30- 6:00 pm at Menino Arts Center in Hyde Park
  • Saturdays 9:00- 10:30 am at ZUMIX in East Boston

COMPENSATION

$2889 per year
