2021-2022 Season: Now Is The Time

"Everything to be afraid of about the climate crisis is already here …I believe in the power my generation has to shape our future. We are at the most pivotal moment where our existence, our reality, our futures and our present are all at stake." -Xiuhtezcatl Martinez (19)

The singers of Boston Children’s Chorus join their voices in our 19th season to call awareness to the climate emergency. This season we celebrate the wonder and beauty of this planet that we call home and examine the systemic inequities that so often cause marginalized communities to suffer the greatest at the hand of environmental disasters. We seek to become active citizens in our communities—working to dismantle the structures of inequity that hurt our society and our climate. Through the power of song, Boston Children’s Chorus sends an urgent message: Now Is The Time to act!

This Season:

In our 19th season, Boston Children’s Chorus is excited to be back in action with in-person rehearsals and live performances. This season will feature amazing guest artists & conductors, including Alysia Lee, The Eureka Ensemble, Suad Bushnaq, The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus, and more. BCC singers will continue to work with world-renowned composers in our groundbreaking commissioning project, Opus Nuovo, which will premiere in our season finale concert in May 2022.

Opus Nuovo Updates:

We have engaged two exciting composers to work with our singers to focus on issues of environmental justice, aligning with our season theme: Now Is The Time. Syrian educator and composer, Suad Bushnaq, will be working with our younger singers to create a three-movement Climate Cantata for performance with the Eureka Orchestra, and Mexican composer Jorge Sosa will work with our singers to create a new youth opera reflecting on the climate emergency.
