Workshops
BCC Comes to You!
Boston Children's Chorus is eager to support school music programs and professional development for educators. You will find below the ways in which BCC can support your work! These offerings can be tailored to fit your needs as an educator and the needs of your students at all grade levels. Students and teachers who participate in these programs are invited to join BCC for a mass combined number in Lift Every Voice, our final concert of the 2019-2020 season! The concert will take place on May 16 at the Strand Theater in Dorchester.
Please note we would like to receive requests at least one month before the collaboration is to take place.
This program is free for schools and programs that operate within the City of Boston. For communities outside Boston, the rate is negotiable, depending on distance and the program you request.
Not a music educator? That's okay! Your students will still benefit from our engaging offerings. Both "Social Justice Through a Musical Lens" and "Music of a Movement" can be adapted for non-music classes.
A Second Set of Ears and Eyes
- What is this session?
- We've all been there. A guest comes in and says what we've been saying to our choirs (almost verbatim sometimes!) since we started, and that's when our singers decide to "get it." A BCC conductor is happy to be that guest! Jokes aside, we are happy to come to your school and work with your choir on repertoire for an upcoming concert or festival.
- How does this work?
- A BCC Conductor will visit 1-2 rehearsals and offer feedback.
- Please complete this form to request "A Second Set of Ears and Eyes" for your school or program.
- Cost for schools outside Boston: $400 per day
*Social Justice Conversations Through a Musical Lens
- What is this session?
- Music can be a powerful tool to stimulate social justice conversations. For performing ensembles, these conversations can inform the musical choices we make and provide a pathway to more meaningful performances.
- How does this work?
- A BCC conductor will meet with the host educator and visits the class/rehearsal 2-4 times to listen/gather the ensemble's thoughts, lead conversation, and reconnect the conversation to the music
- Please complete this form to request "Social Justice Conversations Through a Musical Lens" for your school or program.
- Cost for schools outside Boston: $400
*Music of a Movement
- What is this session?
- Protest movements all over the world have used music as a tool to unify activists and bolster their confidence. BCC often performs this music and learns about how these songs were used. We're happy to share this music and knowledge with you and your students in an interacting and engaging setting.
- How does it work?
- A BCC conductor will meet the host educator once outside of class and visit 1-2 times during rehearsal/class.
- Please complete this form to request "Music of a Movement" for your school or program.
- Cost for schools outside Boston: $400
Working Towards a Socially Conscious Choral Program
- What is this session?
- Socially conscious choral programs recognize the humanity of students in the school choral program and use that humanity to make teaching and learning and music making relevant and authentic. At BCC we are always working towards this program and we're happy to share what we've found with choral educators.
- How does this work?
- A BCC Conductor will visit teachers twice to consult outside rehearsal and offer one workshop within the context of a rehearsal
- Please complete this form to request "Working Towards a Socially Conscious Choral Program" for your school or program.
- Cost for schools outside Boston: $400
