Gil Wermeling
Teaching Assistant
Gil Wermeling, active conductor, educator, baritone, cellist, and plant enthusiast, is delighted to be a part of the BCC community. His recent positions include the Director of the Choral Program at Amherst College and Choir Director at First Congregational Church of South Hadley. Gil holds a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Graduate Certificate in Music Theory Pedagogy and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Amherst College in Music and Biology where he was also awarded the Lincoln Lowell Russell Prize.
Gil has sung with the Illumine Vocal Arts Ensemble since 2019. As a cellist, a recent personal highlight was joining the Smith College touring performance of Mahler’s Second Symphony in 2023.
In his teaching Gil prioritizes an explorative and collaborative approach where all students are included and uplifted. His first year seminar at UMass Amherst, Stop and Hear the Roses, offered students an opportunity to examine closely and discuss the diverse musics and soundscapes that surround their undergraduate experience.
